VISIT OF BANGLADESH (BD) DELEGATION ON  STUDY TOUR ON BEST PRACTICE OF JUTE PRODUCTION, DIVERSIFICATION AND TECHNOLOGY ON 20 MARCH 2017 AT IJIRA

 

A team of 13 officials from the Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) of the Government of The People’s Republic of Bangladesh visited IJIRA on 20 March 2017. Director, Dr. U. S. Sarma, welcomed the team.  Director, IJIRA, in his welcoming address expressed that by exchanging informations with such delegations, scientists, newsletters/periodicals and other publications from the both the countries will be beneficial to  both the countries.  A presentation was made before the BD delegates on various research activities of IJIRA. BD team informed that Bangladesh University of Technology (BUET) is carrying out a study in Bangladesh, on application of Jute Geotextiles.

Thereafter, there was a question-answer session, in which the BD team wanted to know about the details of 580 gm jute bags, recently developed by IJIRA. They showed keen interest in jute stick and oil free spinning projects.

Director asked whether Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) could sign an MoU with India during the ensuing ‘Textiles India 2017’ an International Mega Event, being held from 30 June to 02 July 2017 at Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Gujrat, which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, where jute producers, exporters and buyers all will gather. IJIRA and BJRI could sign an MoU for a joint strategy to fight against synthetics. Director informed the delegates that he has requested Director General, BJRI for his participation.

After the meeting in the Conference Room, the team was taken to Pilot Plant, Soil Testing Laboratory and Exhibition Room where various displayed products were shown. The team appreciated for such an excellent institute like IJIRA which is run with the support of Govt. and industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting head of the BD delegates expressed their gratitude for conducting a very nice meeting and visit to the institute.

Scopes of Jute Geotextiles for the Stabilization of Over Burden (OB) Dumps of Coal Mines

Methods of coal mining, scenario of coal industry and formation method of over-burden dump had been discussed. Reasons of dump soil erosion and remedial measures had been explained. Efficacy of Jute Geotextiles on OB Dump protection had also been discussed. It was informed that Northern Coal Fields Co. Ltd. (NCL) has numbers of unstable OB Dump and they are interested to apply JGT technology for the protection of the dumps.     

Association Mapping for Stem Rot Disease Resistance in Jute Plant

Biochemical Softening of Hard Root Cuttings of Jute Fibre for Better Utilization

The presentation was delivered on efficacy and advantages of using biochemical softening of hard root cuttings of jute fibre. Floor level performance of three jute mills using the technology had also been discussed. It has informed that 10 % - 15% hard root cuttings may be applied successfully on existing batches of sacking quality without compromising quality and performance. Thus the batch cost will reduce substantially.    

Standard Methods for Inspection of B. Twill Jute Bag Quality (IS 16186:2014, Amendment 1)

Detailed methodology of inspection of B. Twill jute bags and criteria for conformity had been discussed elaborately. Various stages of inspection of B. Twill jute bags; sampling criteria, selection of bags, assessment of fabric & bag fault, measurement of physical properties, determination of breaking strength, etc had also been discussed. The present facilities of IJIRA as well as IJIRA’s experience in jute bag inspection were informed.
